The mission of Mennonite College of Nursing is to educate undergraduate and graduate nursing students to serve the citizens of Illinois, the nation, and the global community.
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE – Illinois State University leaders continue to provide exceptionally well prepared nurses to lead in this era of healthcare reform and change.
PROGRAM EXPANSION – Illinois State is addressing the need for nursing faculty, nurse practitioners, nursing administrators, clinical nurse leaders and B.S.N.’s who will provide care and leadership in the future, by expanding enrollment at MCN in the undergraduate and graduate programs.
QUALITY CLINICAL SIMULATION - Illinois State’s Board of Trustees approved a $2.1 million lab expansion, which will accommodate assessment labs, classrooms, patient simulation areas and offices.
STUDENT SUCCESS – MCN student pass rates for NCLEX and FNP certification exams consistently exceed state and national averages.
PRESTIGIOUS POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS – A majority of MCN’s Doctorally prepared faculty received fellowships which provided them superior research training.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – Faculty, staff and students continue this focus by creating partnerships within the community in order to make a difference through nursing practice, education and research.
ADVOCATE BROMENN ENDOWED PROFESSOR – Dr. Shelly Malin, a national leader in nursing excellence, evidence-based practice, and advanced nursing practice, joined MCN and Advocate BroMenn. Dr. Malin will work with MCN faculty colleagues, Advocate BroMenn staff, as well as nursing students engaged in local evidence based practice and research to improve patient care and enhance nursing excellence.
$100,000 HARTFORD SCHOLARSHIP – Charlene Aaron, assistant professor, received this scholarship for her groundbreaking work exploring the impact on the health of family members in the African American community who care for loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS – MCN, the local Economic Development Council (EDC), regional nursing schools, and health care providers partnered together to pilot a regional on-line clinical scheduling program to improve efficiency of student placement.
CLASS OF 2010 WINS SPIRIT CHALLENGE – The senior class had the highest percentage of participation (47%) in Illinois State’s Spirit Challenge! Over $3,500 was raised and will be used to support their priority funding projects at MCN.
NEW SCHOLARSHIPS – Four new scholarships were created for MCN to support nursing education for outstanding students.
