Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) at Illinois State University! This is a college grounded in an incredible history and tradition of excellence, supported by a faculty and staff tirelessly committed to innovation, student success, and a drive to educate exceptionally well prepared nurses at every level.

What makes MCN so unique?

  • In July 1999, MCN became the sixth college at Illinois State University. Founded in a rich tradition of nursing education as a former private college in 1919, MCN has maintained important traditions while transforming into an innovative, future-oriented program.

  • The MCN Nursing Simulation Laboratory opens in August 2011. This state-of-the-art laboratory will accommodate assessment labs, classrooms, patient simulation areas and offices. MCN Faculty have received training from the top simulation experts in the country. Clinical Simulation has been well integrated into the curriculum to provide students with cutting edge technology coupled with exquisite pedagogy.

  • MCN can proudly state that its RN-NCLEX pass rates consistently exceed state and national averages. Graduates of MCN at Illinois State University achieved a 97% pass rate on the national nursing licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) on the first try in 2010, exceeding the national and state averages by 10 and 9 points, respectively.

  • MCN faculty are known as master teachers and consistently win awards for their teaching expertise.

  • Classes are taught by faculty with cutting edge, research and clinical expertise. Faculty-student ratio at clinical sites is 1:8.

  • Undergraduate and graduate students have opportunities to work with nationally recognized nurse scientist faculty on their research.

  • The college offers many private scholarships and awards for nursing students.

  • The Transcultural Nursing Experience allows students the opportunity to examine nursing care in a location that is culturally different. Locations have included England, Russia, Kenya, Kentucky and Texas as well as Chicago area

  • As our mission states, MCN is committed to being celebrative, and throughout the year several events are planned to bring together faculty, students, alumni, staff and the community.

If nursing is your passion, and you want to be sure you will get an education that will prepare you for success, you are in the right place! MCN has faculty, staff, alumni and community members that are passionate about educating students to be outstanding nursing leaders.

I look forward to meeting students, alumni and friends throughout the community so we might improve health care for those in Illinois and beyond.
